How to Decide What to Wear Under Your Wedding Dress

Now that you’ve found your dream wedding dress, you’ll need to decide what you’re going to wear under it on your wedding day. Your undergarments play a role in how your dress looks and how comfortable you feel on the day, both of which are vitally important.

Here are a few tips that will make it easier to choose the right wedding undergarments.

Find the right shade. When shopping for wedding undergarments, you want to choose a shade that either matches the color of your dress or your natural skin tone. Most bridal shops and undergarment brands stock an array of shades, so it won’t be difficult to find a match.

Braless is ok in some instances. Many wedding dresses already have built-in support so you may be able to go braless if you feel comfortable doing so. If you can feel boning inside the dress, it has a built-in corset. Other dresses may have an elastic bra strap too.

There are alternatives if a bra isn’t an option. If you need some support or coverage but a bra isn’t a possibility, there are a few alternatives. Pasties are stickers that you can use if have a sheer gown. Tape strips can be used for both coverage and support. Finally, stick-on silicone cups and bras will blend in with your skin tone and provide moderate support.

Your straps shouldn’t be seen. If you will be wearing a bra with straps, make sure you can’t see the straps. Unfortunately, if the straps of your dress are very thin, you will need to opt for a strapless bra – a corset is also an option. There are also longline bras, which are perfect if your dress has a low back.

Ditch the panty line. Choosing the right panty cut and fit will also make a difference to how your dress looks. Seamless underwear is always the best option for brides, especially if the gown is fitted.

Use shapewear to feel more confident. If your tummy is something that you’re concerned about or you simply want to ensure that your silhouette is picture-perfect, consider wearing shapewear underneath your dress. There are several different shapewear options available so consider which areas of your body you want to contour.

Opt for tights in winter. If you want to keep warm during your winter wedding, consider adding some tights to the mix.

Before you go for your first alteration or fitting, make sure that you’ve already purchased your undergarments as this can change your measurements and how the gown fits.
